Jacy Sheldon is a professional basketball player from the United States, currently competing for the Connecticut Sun in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). She honed her skills in college basketball at Ohio State University. In the 2024 WNBA draft, she was chosen fifth overall by the Dallas Wings. Additionally, she holds the position of Director of Player Development at Ohio State.
Jacy Rae Sheldon was born on August 23, 2000, in Olmsted Falls, Ohio, United States. She participated in basketball at Dublin Coffman High School located in Dublin, Ohio. Prior to her junior year, she experienced a concussion due to a car accident, which sidelined her from the sport for several weeks. During her junior year, she achieved impressive statistics, averaging 26.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 6 apg, and 5.2 spg, and was honored as the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association Division I Co-Player of the Year alongside Kierstan Bell. In her senior season, Jacy Sheldon set a school record by scoring 52 points in a game against Eastmoor Academy. She further excelled, averaging 28.3 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 6.5 apg, and 5.1 spg, which earned her the title of state Division I Player of the Year from the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association. By the time she graduated, Jacy Sheldon held the record for the most points, assists, and steals in the history of Coffman High School. She was recognized as a three-time Columbus Dispatch All-Metro Player of the Year and was a finalist for Ohio Miss Basketball during her high school career.
Jacy Sheldon achieved a freshman season-high of 23 points during a 104–74 victory over Sacramento State in December 2019. Throughout her freshman year, she maintained an average of 9.6 ppg. In her sophomore season, she reached a new high of 29 points in a 92–87 win against Iowa on February 4, 2021, while averaging 16.7 ppg, 3.7 rpg, and 2.6 apg, which earned her second-team All-Big Ten recognition. On November 13, she scored 14 points and matched the program’s single-game record with 11 steals in an 82–64 victory against Boston College. Unfortunately, she was limited for most of her senior season due to a foot injury. On April 15, 2024, Jacy Sheldon was chosen as the fifth overall pick in the first round of the 2024 WNBA draft by the Dallas Wings. Jacy Sheldon made her debut in the WNBA regular season on May 15, 2024, contributing to a home victory of 87-79 against the Chicago Sky. She continued as a starter for the remainder of the season, with the exception of one game. Initially, the trade was reported as Jacy Sheldon and the 8th pick in the 2025 WNBA draft being exchanged for DiJonai Carrington and the 12th overall pick in the same draft. However, it was later confirmed as part of a more extensive four-team trade.
